Design Systems Foundations
An intermediate course in structuring a design system with Atomic Design, defining a token architecture for color, type, spacing, and elevation, documenting components with usage guidance and accessibility notes, and governing and scaling the whole system across teams and platforms.
By the end of this course you can structure a design token architecture, design and document components that resist misuse, and govern a design system so it stays consistent, adopted, and healthy as more teams and platforms depend on it.

Completed Course progress automatically counts toward the Career Path when this Course belongs to a Mission.
- Builds directly on the prototyping and mobile-design courses in this curriculum
- Every pattern is grounded in a concrete token, component, or governance decision, not abstract theory
- Every lesson ends with a worked example you can practice on
- Covers the full path from token fundamentals to a governed, adopted, cross-platform design system
- Intermediate learners who have completed this curriculum's prototyping and mobile-design courses and now want to specialize in design systems
- Career switchers building a focused design-systems skill set for a portfolio
- Product designers and design-ops-minded engineers moving from individual screens to shared, reusable infrastructure
- Students preparing for a dedicated design-systems or design-ops role
- 30 short, focused lessons across 3 progressive levels
- A graded quiz after every lesson and a 12-question exam per level
- Three continuous worked examples (a fintech app, a logistics dashboard, and a multi-product company rollout) threaded through the closing lessons
- No specific tool required — this course builds transferable token, component, and governance judgment first
Awarded after the Course's configured completion requirements are met.
