Agentic UX: Goals, Tools, Permissions, and Human Control

Learn to design experiences where an AI system pursues a user goal across multiple steps and uses tools or takes actions — without hiding what it is doing or removing meaningful human control. Design visible plans, scoped permissions, risk-matched confirmation, pause/cancel/takeover, failure recovery, and audit trails that keep users in authority over agentic AI.

By the end of this Course, you can specify an agentic flow's goal and boundaries, design a permission and confirmation model matched to real risk, design pause/cancel/takeover and failure recovery, and produce an audit trail that lets a user or reviewer understand exactly what an agent did and why.

01Distinguish assistant behavior from agentic behavior, and specify a user goal, task boundary, and visible plan before implementation
02Design tool and action visibility, honest capability disclosure, and bounded, safe-by-default autonomy
03Design permission scope, least-privilege interaction, one-time versus persistent grants, and risk-tiered confirmation
04Design preview-before-action, confirmation timing, grouped versus per-action confirmation, and pause/stop/cancel/takeover
05Design for partial completion, failed-step recovery, retry versus rollback, and irreversible actions
06Design human escalation, manual-workflow escalation, action receipts, and audit history
07Explain what an agent actually did in plain language, and test resilient agentic workflows including deliberate failure paths

  • Uses scenario-based assessments to rehearse the real judgment calls of a working Product Designer's agentic-UX practice
Who Is This Course For?
  • UX/Product Designers designing AI features that plan and act across multiple steps on a user's behalf
  • Designers who need to move past a single "Are you sure?" confirmation into a real, defensible control model
  • Product teams weighing how much autonomy an AI feature should actually be granted
  • Anyone responsible for what happens when an agentic flow fails partway through
