Strategic UX Research and Research Operations

An advanced course in building a research function that shapes decisions before they are made: constructing a strategic roadmap tied to business risk, standing up the ResearchOps infrastructure that scales research like DesignOps scales design, and synthesizing accumulated studies into strategic insight that survives contact with a real organization over time.

12 hours (approximately)3 Levels · 30 Lessons

By the end of this course you can build a research roadmap tied to genuine business risk, stand up the operational infrastructure that lets research scale without scaling headcount at the same rate, and synthesize accumulated studies into strategic insight that survives leadership scrutiny, spreads beyond the room it was first presented in, and gets deliberately retired once the market it described has moved on.

01How to build a strategic research roadmap, including moving from order-taking to strategic research, tying a roadmap to business strategy, balancing foundational, exploratory, and evaluative research, earning genuine leadership buy-in, prioritizing by business risk, communicating in outcome language, adapting mid-quarter, and measuring research's own impact
02How to build ResearchOps infrastructure, including what ResearchOps is, maintaining an ethical participant panel, building a genuinely searchable repository, consent and ethics at scale, governance over access and retention, choosing tooling sized to real scale, onboarding new researchers and stakeholders, and balancing centralized and embedded models
03How to synthesize strategic insight, including moving from single findings to genuine cross-study patterns, building and prioritizing an opportunity framework, telling a synthesis story that moves a decision, maintaining a living evidence base, socializing insight across an organization, retiring outdated conclusions, and connecting synthesis back to the roadmap
04How to trace a single continuous effort spanning strategic research, ResearchOps, and synthesis together through a real, growing organization from roadmap through insight adoption

What You'll Gain
  • Builds directly on the research and collaboration courses earlier in this curriculum
  • Every pattern is grounded in a concrete roadmap decision, operational fix, or synthesis artifact, not abstract theory
  • Every lesson ends with a worked example you can practice on
  • Covers the full path from a tactical, request-driven research function to a strategic one with mature operations and durable synthesis
Who Is This Course For?
  • Advanced learners who have completed this curriculum's intermediate research and collaboration courses and now want to lead a research function strategically
  • Senior or lead researchers moving into ownership of a team's roadmap, operations, and synthesis practice, not just individual studies
  • Research operations specialists building or scaling panels, repositories, governance, and tooling for a growing team
  • Research managers and heads of research responsible for research's credibility and impact at an organizational level
Course Features
  • 30 short, focused lessons across 3 progressive levels
  • A graded quiz after every lesson and a 12-question exam per level
  • Three continuous worked examples (strategic roadmapping, standing up ResearchOps, and a full course capstone spanning all three levels) for a fictional fintech company, Ledgerly, threaded through the closing lessons
  • No specific tool required — this course builds transferable strategic research judgment first
